Standards & approvals

  • IEC 60127-6 Holders for miniature cartridge fuse-links
  • UL 4248 Fuseholders — series of part standards by type
  • RoHS / REACH Restricted-substance compliance

A holder's current and voltage rating must always meet or exceed both the fuse and the circuit. Running a holder near its limit, or in a hot enclosure, is the most common cause of overheating — derate for ambient.

Read the fuse types guide

A fuse holder looks like an afterthought until one runs hot. It is a current-carrying part in its own right, and the most common cause of a “fuse keeps blowing” or “holder keeps melting” complaint is a holder under-rated for the load or making poor contact — not the fuse itself. Tenso has manufactured the complete range of holders, blocks and clips since 2000, with the contact design and plating checked in-house so the holder carries its rated current without overheating.

Every mounting type, one supplier

Our range covers panel-mount (screw-cap, bayonet, bolt-in) for instruments and control gear; in-line holders — including sealed, waterproof versions — for harnesses and outdoor use; DC-rated holders for solar, battery and telecom circuits; and PCB/SMD holders and clips for board-level protection. Multi-way fuse blocks, carriers and sockets group and distribute several protected circuits behind one assembly. Because we make them all, you get one supplier, one set of documents, and holders designed to fit the fuses you buy from us.

Why a holder overheats — and how we prevent it

In order of likelihood: the holder or fuse is under-rated for the continuous load; contact resistance is high (a wrong-size fuse, corrosion, or a loose terminal); the ambient is hotter than the rating assumes; or there is a genuine circuit fault. A hotter-running holder is not fixed by fitting a bigger fuse — that only moves the failure. Our holders are rated and inspected so that, sized correctly for your circuit and ambient, they carry the current cool.

DC needs DC-rated parts

A DC arc has no natural current zero to help it extinguish, so a holder rated only for AC may not safely interrupt a DC fault. For any DC circuit — solar, battery or telecom — specify DC-rated holders for the system’s voltage class.

Why source from Tenso

You're buying from the factory

No trading-company markup and no telephone game with a sub-supplier — design, tooling, production and QC all sit under one roof.

01

We make the part

Own tooling, moulding, stamping and assembly under one roof — factory pricing and quality control, not a reseller's.

02

Built not to run hot

Contact design and plating are checked in-house so the holder carries its rated current without high contact resistance.

FAQ

Holders & distribution — questions buyers ask

Can I use an AC fuse holder on a DC circuit?

Not as a rule. DC needs a holder and fuse rated for DC; an AC-only part may not safely interrupt a DC fault. Check the DC voltage rating on the datasheet and see our DC fuse holders.

Why is my fuse holder getting hot?

Usually the holder or fuse is under-rated for the continuous load, or contact resistance is high (wrong-size fuse, corrosion, a loose terminal). Re-rate and check the contacts before fitting a larger fuse.

What size holder do I need for a 5×20 mm fuse?

A holder built for the 5×20 mm cartridge format, rated at or above your circuit's current and voltage. We make panel, in-line and PCB versions for that size.

Single holder or a fuse block?

Use a single holder for one circuit; use a multi-way block to group and distribute several protected circuits behind one assembly.

Do I need a UL-listed holder?

If the finished product ships to North America, usually yes. For Europe you'll need CE; internationally, IEC. Specify the approval for your market early.
